Cross Country Skiing: North of Cumberland
is the Timberland Hills Ski area. The Cumberland area Ski Touring
Association operates it. (CASTA) Timberland Hills is ideally suited
for cross-country skiing. The intermediate loop starts easy and
becomes more challenging as it runs along the 80-90 foot high
ridges. The beginner’s trails near the parking lot, are relatively
flat, winding through a spectacular hardwood forest. A longer
outside loop should challenge even the advanced skier with beautiful
scenery and changing terrain. |
Timberland West is a 2.5-Km lighted ski trail.
The trail meanders through 500 acres of Barron County forest land.
This is a beginner type trail with gently rolling terrain and one
small hill. Deer, grouse, and other wildlife abound throughout the
area. The CASTA site hosts the U.S.S.A. District Cross Country
Championship, the Indianhead Classic, and Ringu Rinnet meet.
Timberland Hills offers a unique skiing experience.
